Frankly speaking any relationship takes effort. Marriages actually take more effort than other relationships. In order to keep your marriage fresh you need to constantly work at it. This is true whether you have been married for six months or sixty years. Everyone’s marriage is different but there are a few universal things that you can do to put the spark back into a dim marriage or to ensure that your flame keeps burning as brightly as ever.
The key in keeping your marriage fresh and exciting is to add fresh and exciting things to it. You have to be creative and find ways in which to take the boredom out of your married life. This does not relate only to the bedroom but to all aspects of your life together.
One of the best things that you can do for yourself and your marriage is to plan a date night at least one every week. This can be as simple as going out to dinner or catching a movie. If you can not find a sitter for the kids then plan a date night after they have gone to bed. You can pop some popcorn and snuggle up on the couch to catch a good movie together. The key is not only togetherness but being alone together. When you are planning your date night make it as exciting as it was when you were dating. Put together a nice outfit, spend some extra time with your hair and make-up and throw on some sexy perfume. The excitement that you will get just dressing up will help you to throw a spark on your low-burning flame.
Every so often you should put a love note in your husband’s jacket, lunch box or briefcase before he leaves for work. Spray some of your sexiest perfume on it and just write a little note telling him how much you love and appreciate him. This can be a great way to get him thinking about you throughout his workday and make him excited to see you when he gets home.
You can also cook together or play games together. Remember, the key is to be together. Take a walk or a hike. You can put music on and dance. Light some candles in the living room or bedroom, put on a slow and sexy song and dance to candlelight. Another way that you can connect on a closer level is to go to church together. This gives you the opportunity to really open up communications about your beliefs and your hopes and dreams. Personal and intimate conversations are an excellent way to feel closer and more connected to each other.
Compliment each other every day. Tell your husband that he looks handsome in his new suit or that he did a wonderful job of fixing the basement leak. Whatever you can find that will lift his spirits and make him smile. And never let one day go by without telling him that you love him. This is an important point. When you tell each other “I love you” be sure that you are not doing it out of habit. Make a point to stop sometime throughout your day and vow your love. Send him a text message at work. Go into the bathroom while he’s showering and write “I love you” on the steam on the bathroom mirror. There are millions of ways to show him you love him just as there are millions of ways for him to reciprocate that will not seem hum-drum and boring.
The key in keeping your marriage fresh is to remember why you fell in love in the first place. Keep these feelings close at all times. If you do find yourself slipping into a rut then mix it up a little. Finding something new to add creativity and a new spark to your relationship. Enjoy each other every day and you will be much happier with every day that passes.
